Shumi Winery Iberiuli Khikhvi Qvevri 2022

A characterful Khikhvi, balancing ripe fruit, spice and salinity after five months of skin contact in qvevri.

Rare and unmistakably Georgian, this 100% Khikhvi from the Iberiuli range reveals the singular character of qvevri wines. Its amber hue leads into an aromatic and textured wine combining ripe apricot, orchard fruits, dried fig and pear with more complex notes of orange peel, vanilla, caramel and spice. The palate is dry and broad, supported by pronounced yet well-integrated tannins, vibrant tension and a distinctly saline finish. With air, the wine gradually reveals greater depth and complexity. Its structure makes it particularly well suited to spice-rich cuisine: chicken satay, duck à l’orange, boldly seasoned Asian dishes or Georgian recipes featuring herbs and walnuts. The 2022 vintage was awarded 96 points at the 2025 IWSC.

Founded in 1997 in Tsinandali, at the heart of Kakheti, Shumi is one of the pioneering family wineries of modern Georgia. With vineyards spread across several of the country’s key terroirs and appellations, the estate seeks to match indigenous grape varieties with the terroirs where they can best express themselves. Its approach brings Georgian traditions, particularly qvevri winemaking, into dialogue with contemporary techniques, with the ambition of revealing the diversity of Georgia’s rich wine heritage.
