Zulal Areni 2022

Zulal Areni 2022

Vayots Dzor, Armenia (75 cL)

A refined expression of an ancient grape, shaped by freshness and altitude rather than sheer power.

An elegant, vibrant Areni where cherry, spice and freshness reveal Armenia with remarkable finesse.

Made entirely from Areni Noir, the emblematic grape of Vayots Dzor, this red favors freshness and finesse over sheer power. The nose reveals red cherry, plum and dark-fruit aromas layered with spice and subtle pepper. On the palate, the wine is balanced and supple, supported by bright acidity and fine tannins that carry into a clean, persistent finish. The high-altitude vineyards and volcanic soils contribute to the characteristic tension and aromatic definition of Armenian Areni.

Founded in 2017 by Aimee Keushguerian, Zulal — meaning “pure” in Armenian — was created with a clear purpose: to reveal the character of Armenia’s indigenous grape varieties without masking them behind international styles. The winery works particularly with vineyards in the Arpa Valley of Vayots Dzor, where high elevations, volcanic and limestone soils, and dramatic temperature variations create ideal conditions for wines marked by freshness, precision and distinctive character. Zulal also explores lesser-known Armenian varieties, contributing to the rediscovery of one of the world’s oldest wine cultures.
